Today we’re going to talk about one of my favorite things: skincare. I’m absolutely obsessed with reading about it, listening podcasts about it, and trying new skincare products. I didn’t really get into skincare until about two years ago, but since then, I’ve been able to nail down a solid skincare routine I can’t wait to share with you guys!
Before we get started, I should probably mention my skin type. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I try to keep my skincare routine super basic. I don’t like added scents or anything like that. I used to think I had really dry skin, but now I’d say my skin is probably more combination than anything else. I don’t get acne very often, but I get occasional hormonal breakouts. These products work really well for me, but I’m not a dermatologist, so as always, take this with a grain of salt.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash – Daily Scrub
I love using the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash morning and night. At night, I typically use it while I’m in the shower, but in the morning I just use it with a wetwash cloth at the sink. It’s an exfoliating daily scrub that helps eliminate acne, especially blackheads. This has been my go-to cleanser since my sophomore year of college almost four years ago. My dermatologist actually recommended this product to me and it’s been working wonderfully.
JMsolution Water Luminous Jelly Cleanser
This is my favorite skincare product I own. This is my ride or die. I can’t recommend it enough. I actually got this first in a sample size from my Ipsy bag in September of 2017 and fell in love instantly. I use it right after the Neutrogena exfoliating cleanser in the shower every night and this just makes my skin feel incredible. Instead of leaving my skin feeling tight and dry, it makes it so soft. It has a clear jelly consistency and it takes off my makeup like a dream. I can even use it on my eyes because it doesn’t sting.
I should also probably mention that I’ve had this particular bottle since last January and it’s still going strong. A little goes a long way with this stuff! You only need the smallest little drop to cleanse your entire face. It’s sold out on the JMsolution website right now, but as soon as it’s back in stock, you need to get this cleanser!
L’Oreal Hydrafresh Toner
I feel like I’ve been through the wringer with toners. My biggest skincare problem is redness, so toners are really important to me. The one thing I hate about most toners though is the way they make my skin burn. Since I have very sensitive skin, I needed to find an alcohol-free toner that wouldn’t strip my skin of moisture, especially because I am prone to dry skin as well.
I used to use the Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner and liked that a lot, but Walmart was always sold out every time I needed it. I ended up trying this L’Oreal toner because the Walmart pick-up guys gave me it as a substitution. I was very hesitant at first, but I didn’t want to wait until the Neutrogena one came back in stock, so I decided to give it a try. I like this one even more! It is also alcohol-free and super moisturizing, so I recommend this to anyone with sensitive skin looking for a good toner. I use this morning and night with a cotton pad after I finish cleansing.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin
Like toners, I’ve also searched far and wide for the perfect moisturizer. Since my skin is so sensitive to fragrance, finding a moisturizer that didn’t break me out was a challenge. Also, when I first started this skincare journey, my skin was so dry moisturizers couldn’t really even sink into my skin. They just kind of sat on top, which was gross.
My dermatologist recommended this moisturizer to me because it’s hypoallergenic. Let me tell you, it’s served me well the past few years. I like it because it’s fragrance-free, phthalate-free, and dye-free and it absorbs into my skin quickly without leaving it looking shiny or greasy.
There’s been a lot of talk about jade rollers online recently, so I had to try one out for myself. Apparently, jade rollers are supposed tighten and tone your skin, improving your skin’s elasticity. I heard that a lot of people liked using them in the morning to help with inflammation and lymphatic drainage. I decided to bite the bullet and spend $10.95 on this Atahana Jade Roller to help with my puffy under eyes in the morning.
Now, I’m not really sure if it balances your chi and all that jazz, but it does feel sooooo nice on my skin in the morning. I keep mine in the fridge when I’m not using it, so it feels extra cold on my skin and helps calm inflammation down around my eyes. I definitely recommend this to anyone, even if it ends up being a gimmick in the long run. It just feels so so so so good on around your eyes in the morning. However, I definitely do think that it helps reduce the appearance of bags under my eyes though.
So there you have it– these are my tried and true skincare products I can’t get enough of. While I do use masques, serums, and a few other products, I haven’t tested them long enough to put them up in the blog. After some more experimenting, I’ll be sure to report back when I find new products I love as much as these ones!
